a) What is interlanguage?

     Ans : Interlanguage is the type of language produced by second- and foreign- language learners who have not yet reached proficiency. It is a separate linguistic system, clearly different from both the learner's native language and the target language.

b) Define language from the Structural point of view.

     Ans : The structural view sees language as a linguistic system made up of various subsystems: from phonological, morphological, lexical, etc.

c) What is linguistic imperialism?

     Ans : Linguistic imperialism is the imposition of one language on the speakers of other languages.

d) What is ‘critical period’ in learning language by children?

     Ans : A critical period in psychology refers to a specific time during development when the brain is particularly receptive to acquiring a skill or knowledge.

e) How many phrases are there in TBLT?

     Ans : There are three phases in TBLT: pre-task, during task and post-task.

f) What is Schema?

     Ans : Schema is a mental structure of preconceived ideas, a framework representing some aspect of the world, or a system of organizing and perceiving new information.

g) Explain ‘Language Acquisition Device’ (LAD).

     Ans : LAD stands for Language Acquisition Device which is a hypothetical mental capacity which enables an infant to acquire and produce language.                                                                                                

h) What do ‘you mean by ‘lingua franca’?

     Ans : Skimming refers to the way in which one reads at a faster rate to gain the general idea about the text. Scanning, on the other hand, generally refers to that technique when one looks into the document for searching some specific text.
